The 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone Edition Has It All, Does It All

March 8th, 2022 by

The aptly named Toyota Tundra Capstone easily assumes the top spot in the 2022 Tundra lineup, offering a luxuriously appointed cab to accompany the Tundra’s rugged construction and legendary work ethic. As importantly, it’s powered by Toyota’s i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain, offering exceptional gas mileage along with power and torque.

It’s What’s On the Inside that Counts

It goes without saying that new 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone performs just like a big, full-size, workhorse of a truck should perform. But what earns it the “Capstone” description is its amazingly appointed interior.

The Tundra Capstone, which should be available for sale at City Toyota sometime this spring, comes in only one body combination: a CrewMax cab with 5.5-foot truck bed. That cavernous truck cab accommodates a long list of luxurious appointments that distinguishes it from all other Tundras. This is definitely the truck for those who wish to combine plush with performance; it’s undeniably upscale.

To summarize the experience of entering the Tundra Capstone’s cab, it begins with standard power running boards for all passengers. Greeting them are luxury-grade leather-trimmed seats in a stylish black-and-white design that is exclusive to the Capstone edition. These incredibly comfortable seats are complemented by authentic Dark American Walnut on the center console and dash, with ample LED accent lighting to set the mood. Overhead is a standard panoramic moonroof that adds an open, airy feel to the entire experience.

But as you settle-in, you’ll start to note some of the truly indulgent features that signal that the driving experience is going to be top-notch:

  • 14-inch Multimedia Touchscreen
  • 12.3-inch Multi-Informational Display
  • 10-inch Head-Up Display
  • All-new Toyota Audio Multimedia System
  • Intelligent Assistant with Drive Connect
  • Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™
  • Cloud Navigation
  • 12-Speaker JBL Premium Audio System
  • Leather-trimmed Heated Steering Wheel

What you may not note until out on the open road is that the Tundra Capstone surrounds the driver and front passenger with acoustic glass on the front doors for a surprisingly quiet ride.

The Outside Adds to the Score

If the Tundra Capstone earns big points for the interior, the exterior certainly scores with 22-inch chrome rims and the chrome grill’s color-keyed outer frame. You’ll also find subtle, chrome “Capstone” badging on the doors to signal that this is Toyota’s flagship Tundra edition.

Beyond those instantly noticeable features, the exterior boasts the new 2022 Tundra’s rugged styling and stance, with the body slightly elevated above those impressive 22-inch chrome rims and imposing tires.

Power to Perform. And Play.

All of the above is propelled by Toyota’s new i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain — with twin-turbo V-6 engines — that pumps out 437 horsepower and 583 lb.-ft. of torque. While Toyota has some Tundra models that can haul somewhat more than the Capstone, the maximum towing capacity of 10,340 pounds is hardly a compromise when considering the stunning features and comforts of this top-of-the-line edition.

The 2022 Tundra Capstone’s max payload rating is 1,485 pounds and is matched with available Load-Leveling Rear Height Control Air Suspension and Adaptive Variable Suspension setting that include Comfort, Sport S, Sport+, and Custom. Perfect for hauling campers and boats.

Cutting-Edge Towing Capacity

To expand upon the Tundra Capstone’s towing capabilities, it’s worth noting that it features a brand new, dual-stage Tow/Haul mode. This allows the driver to select powertrain and handling characteristics based on the weight of the trailer. And with the available Tow+ mode, the transmission shift points are automatically adjusted to handle the load. The ingenious Trailer Sway Control mitigates that dreaded “trailer wag” at higher speeds, when the load is imbalanced, or when it’s windy. Perhaps most impressive, however, is Toyota’s Trailer Backup Guide with Straight-Path Assist, making the process of backing up both the truck and trailer in a straight line a “hands free” experience. Add a number of 360-degree cameras and Toyota’s integrated trailer brake controller, which can extend the Blind Spot Monitor to include the trailer, and moving with a trailer is now an entirely new experience.

Go Farther On Less

We’ve talked a lot about the power of theTundra Capstone’s i-FRAME MAX hybrid engines, but we’ve not focused on the benefits of the elective hybrid motors. According to Toyota’s estimates, the new 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone is anticipated to get up to 24 MPG Highway which, for a truck of this size, is impressive. (Actually EPA estimates have not yet been released). And remember that a hybrid drive train adds extra torque to the equation.

Where to Get One!

Again, City Toyota (Daly City, CA) is hoping to have a limited number of the new 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone edition trucks for sale or lease sometime in the spring of this year. Given that all Tundra trucks — new or used — are in very high demand right now, we expect that the very few Capstone edition Tundras that will hit the road will mean that it will be tough to find one. We highly recommend that you contact a Sales Representative at City Toyota now to talk about reserving your own Tundra Capstone, or seeing what other models of Tundra may be available, including the SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794, and TRD Pro versions. These are the next generation Toyota Tundra pickup trucks from Toyota USA, for sale or for lease, at City Toyota in Daly City, one of Northern California’s largest Toyota dealerships. Conveniently located just off I-280 in Daly City, minutes south of San Francisco.
